ACUR Completes Contract for 160 Standing Smart Balances with the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong

ACUR has concluded its latest EPD contract—delivering, installing, and maintaining 160 standing smart balances for GREEN@COMMUNITY stores.

Contract Completion & Maintenance

Over the past three years, ACUR has supplied and maintained standing-type smart balances for the Environmental Protection Department’s GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling scheme. We provisioned 160 units, handled full installation across community collection sites, and continue to provide proactive maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operation and accurate data capture. Each balance streams weight readings directly into the GREEN@COMMUNITY platform of the EPD.

AI-Driven Material Classification & Fraud Prevention

Alongside hardware deployment, ACUR developed an onboard AI model that captures images of each load and classifies recyclables—paper, metal, plastic, etc.—before transactions are recorded. By flagging incorrect or non-recyclable items in real time, this system reduces user errors and prevents misuse, safeguarding the integrity of GREEN@COMMUNITY’s point-based rewards program.

Ongoing EPD Projects

ACUR remains under contract with the EPD to supply and maintain modular smart balances and smart bins as part of the EPD’s GREEN@COMMUNITY project.
